Renovation of Epsilon Room

posted in: A Section, House Corp

We made steady progress renovating Epsilon this past Winter term. GMT decided to renovate all of Epsilon since it was already torn apart due to the damage from the car that crashed into the house last September. Closets and lofts have been removed. Undergrads also installed a sump pump under Epsilon with drain tile that runs all the way under Kappa and Zeta. These ensure that the entire West wing is now protected from standing water issues and keeps the crawl space healthy. After the pump was installed, we sistered the joist that was cut to provide clearance for the sump pump basin and replaced the remaining original 1960s flooring with 2 layers of OSB subflooring. Now we are patching holes in the walls so that we can start painting. We are still working with our contractor and insurance company to get the damage from the car crash repairs completed as they are very busy right now. Once the contractors are done we can put carpet in, rebuild the closets and lofts and make the room livable again for the undergrads.

After Epsilon is completed, GMT is planning on a complete renovation of Xi and we will also be installing a commercial grade speaker system that we recently won at an auction. Huge thank you to everyone who helped this past term, it was great to see undergrads from both sections working together on the Shelter. I hope to accomplish even more this summer!
